Australia Day has come around fast and we’re ditching the pub and opting for a day of pure gold viewing.
Spare yourself the task of scrolling through Netflix: sit back and enjoy these Aussie rippers.
1. Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
When it comes to Aussie cinema, it’s hard to go past the riotous Priscilla, Queen of the Desert for Australia Day viewing. The Australian outback and ABBA have never been more suited.
2. Crocodile Dundee
“Call that a knife? This is a knife” – yes, we all know the line, and there’s no mistaking the quotability of this Aussie gem. A fish-out-of-water story of Mick, an eccentric crocodile poacher in New York, Crocodile Dundee makes for perfect Australia Day viewing with a group of mates and a beverage or two.
3. Muriel’s Wedding
The hair. The shoulder pads. It’s hard to define what it is about Muriel’s Wedding that makes it so likeable, but this classic outcast tale deserves a place amongst the best of Aussie cinema.
4. Strictly Ballroom
A tale of love, betrayal and of course some epic dancing, you can’t go wrong with this classic fairy tale by renowned Aussie director Baz Luhrmann.
5. The Castle
It wouldn’t be an Aussie countdown without The Castle! Dig a hole and go straight to the pool room because this is about as Aussie as it gets.
