New Shows and Movies Available to Stream This August

There’s still plenty of winter left to go, which means that there’s a lot of hibernating and cosy nights left to enjoy. And what better way to make the most of it than with some thoroughly binge-worthy movies and TV shows. There’s a lot to look forward to this August. Here are our top picks.

 

The Sinner (Season 2)

This thrilling American mystery crime drama returns to Netflix on August 1st for its second series. With the first series receiving multiple Golden Globe nominations, we’re super excited to see what the second instalment has in store. The show is widely regarded as one of the best crime dramas in recent years, with the latest series seeing the detective returning to investigate a new case of a young boy who murders his parents.

Derry Girls (Season 2)

Set in the 1990s during The Troubles in Northern Ireland, Derry Girls tells the story of a group of teenage friends growing up and going about their daily lives against the backdrop of political violence. The Irish comedy is full of sharp writing, with great casting that led to the first series being a runaway success. If you like shows like The Inbetweeners, then look no further than Derry Girls.

The Handmaid’s Tale (Season 2)

Emmy Award winner Elisabeth Moss returns as the star for the second season of this acclaimed drama, originally adapted from Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel. Moss leads an all star cast as she and her fellow Handmaids try to rise up against their oppressors and fight for their freedom.

Mindhunter (Season 2)

It’s been two years since the first series of Mindhunter aired on Netflix. August 2019 sees the return of this exquisite detective drama that tells the story of the FBI’s criminal profiling programme that was set up in the 1970s. Season 2 is reportedly set to cover a notorious series of murders that took place in Atlanta between 1979 and 1981, which saw 28 children, teens and adults brutally murdered.

Better Call Saul (Season 4)

The fourth season of Breaking Bad spin-off gets its release on Stan on August 28th. The new series is set to be as gripping as ever, taking us back to where Breaking Bad all began with the antics of the infamous Walter White. But the star of the show, as always, is television’s favourite crooked lawyer.
