Top Movies and Shows You Need to Stream This Month

With so much uncertainty around these days, we’re glad that access to great movies and TV shows is still possible – which is why we thought we’d offer a quick roundup of some of our favourites at the moment.

Everything’s Gonna Be Okay (Stan) | TV Series

You’ve heard of a romcom, but have you ever heard of a sadcom? Because that’s the unique genre that Everything’s Gonna Be Okay occupies. Created by Australian comedian, Josh Thomas, the story revolves around Nicholas, a twenty-something-year-old man with a neurotic disposition. After his father dies unexpectedly, Nicholas has to rise to the occasion and take care of his siblings. It’s a charming, heartfelt comedy that seamlessly navigates numerous themes, exploring everything from the nature of grief to familial relationships.

Dublin Murders (SBS On Demand) | TV Series

In the summer of 1985, as dusk begins to descend on a small Irish town outside Dublin, mothers wait for their children to return home for the evening. But on this unusually warm evening, three children fail to return from the woods where they were playing. When the police are called to investigate, they find a 13 year old boy clinging to the trunk of a tree, his shoes filled with blood, with no memory of what happened in the previous hours. Twenty years pass and that the boy is now a detective in the Dublin Murder Squad. When a young girl is found murdered in the same woods, the young detective and his partner find themselves investigating a chilling murder, eerily similar to the unsolved mystery from all those years ago. It’s a thrilling drama, full of atmosphere and complexity, guaranteed to entertain.

Paddington 2 (Netflix) | Movie

There are many great movies out there, critically acclaimed, with excellent ratings. Take, for example, The Shawshank Redemption. It’s a great movie, with an average score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. No surprises there. But, did you know that Paddington 2 has an average rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes? It’s actually that good. When reviewing the movie, Leslie Felperin of The Hollywood Reporter wrote, “Paddington 2 won’t save the world, sadly, but its existence makes everything just that tiny bit better and more, well, bearable.” Log on to Netflix and follow Paddington as he gets a job and tries to earn enough money to buy the perfect gift for his aunt on her 100th birthday. The story unfolds as the  gift gets stolen. What ensues is nothing short of excellent. See for yourself.

Ugly Delicious Season 2 (Netflix) | TV Series

For those who didn’t catch series 1 of Ugly Delicious when it premiered back in 2018, it is one of the finest food shows on Netflix. The show follows celebrity chef David Chang on his travels around the world as he meets with writers and chefs, activists and artists, all of whom view food as a vehicle to break down cultural barriers, tackle misconceptions and uncover shared experiences. In Season 1, Chang traveled the globe to explore Viet-Cajun cuisine in Houston, Neapolitan Pizza in Tokyo, home cooking in Copenhagen, and much more. Season 2 has just landed and is guaranteed to be just as compelling. Be sure to have some snacks nearby, lest you fancy salivating your way through each episode.
