Which video game world would you like to visit and why?

Our Get Inside the Game TV competition didn’t just land a winner an amazing Hisense TV and a trip to PAX, it also acted as some kind of social experiment. We had well over 2,000 entries, some clever, some funny and some… just plain weird. These are the best video game world fantasies that caught our eye the most… for various reasons.

We asked people which video game world they’d most like to visit and why.

Some immediately had an existential crisis…
Tetris, because there are so many unanswered questions to explore. Where are the blocks coming from? What motivates them? Where do they disappear to? – David, SA

Firewatch. The amazing quality and complexity of that world would help me make sense of life in a serene way. Gorgeous and dreadful at once – Patrick, NSW

Some thought of family ties
World of Warcraft changed my life, Introducing me to my future wife, In Azeroth I’d bend my knee, And ask my soulmate to marry me! – Will, QLD

Super Mario 64. My sisters and I spent summer 1997-98 completing this game. It brought us together, and I’d love to explore this world again. – Lawrence, NSW

Badum Tish!
Mass Effect – because like my thumbs on a keyboard I’d like to hang out at the space bar…. That was terrible. *+1 point Renegade* – Troy, VIC

I would live in Halo because my senses would be elevated. (get it, Hisense?) high sense.- Pratham, NSW

I’d go APE if I could be in Donkey Kong! BARRELS of laughs, I’d never be CRANKY and I’d go BANANAS on the evil Kremlings! – Robert, VIC

No Man’s Sky. Wandering the galaxy, discovering flora and fauna, like an intergalattenborough! – Miles, NSW

Have to be Donkey Kong. My partner just tonight said I was a big dumb ape, so I guess I’d feel right at home! – Joel, QLD

Some were very practical…
A 24hr day could equate to a lifetime in The Sims so i would put on fast forward and live life like a king – Hadi, VIC

Many wanted to be Adventurers!
Uncharted – the scenery is amazing, realistic but uncharted, places seen by only a few. Add some easy gun fights and mind-bending puzzles, good day! – Justin, QLD

I would choose No Mans Sky. Leaving Earth to explore the universe, its vast array of worlds and creatures. It would be awe inspiring – Lee, QLD

I would love to visit Geralt in the Witcher 3 and sit back and watch the sunset at Corvo Bianco reminiscing about monster hunting. – Michael, VIC

Uncharted! Exploring that world as a rock-climbing, gun-toting, map-reading, jeep-driving, family-loving, smart-mouth Nathan Drake would be incredible. – Bobbie, QLD

Super Mario Bros is a wonderland to me. The magical mushrooms. Millions of gold coins. Different areas that I can explore. Gotta love an adventure! – Alice, QLD

Some, well, just… no!
I would live inside Pokemon so I could try all the food Brock makes and close the deal with Misty! – Tim, VIC

Some just crave a simple life
Pac-man because life’s a maze and a girl’s gotta eat, right?! – Claire, NSW

Portal 2, using portals to travel would be trippy and fun. The deaths don’t seem too painful compared to other games either. – Daniel, SA

I’d choose Half Life, because then one day would be half my life! The other half would be spent waiting for Half Life 3… – Lisa, VIC

Overwatch, So many ways to live your ‘life’, so many special abilities, legal spray painting and corny one liners. What more do you need? – Darren, QLD

Sometimes it’s the little details…
I want to be inside Mass Effect Sometimes I sit and would reflect Wide open space A customisable face and a lovable Krogan name Rex – Troy, VIC

Skylanders Imaginators so I could dress up and put swords and shields on me. Plus a tail would be cool – Toni, QLD

A ray of sunshine in a Mad World
Gears of War 3, so I can fight alongside of Marcus Fenix and prevent the death of Dom! Saddest moment in gaming history. Craig, NSW

On a watch list?
Grand theft Auto for 24 hours would be a thrill. Why? Because it would be awesome to do things your every day person wouldn’t do and not have to worry about morals for a day. – Dee, NSW

Destiny 2 – I’d be indestructible in the Crucible, a contagion for the Legion, the mauler of Ghaul… I’d be invincible… INVINCIBLE!!! – Jason, QLD

GTA5 because I could make the money easily through crimes to afford this TV instead of attempting to win it, which I probably won’t anyway! – James, NSW

Some shared life goals
Live in Neverwinter. Because you can control the market with enough money. Lots of character customisation, after max level upgrading gear, you do more damage. – Melissa, QLD

Any Kirby Game. Just so I can binge eat and avoid gaining weight… and judgement… like my god, if I could just consume everything around me and not have to sit through some kind of intervention I’d be happy as a pig in mud… which I would inevitably eat. <_< – Ben, QLD

There was a refreshing alternative to the many Pac-Man entries…
TROG. You’re a lil’ dinosaur who has to avoid cavemen but if you eat a pineapple you become a t-rex and chomp everyone in sight. – Craig, NSW
