Here’s everything you need to know about Smart TVs

It’s almost impossible to get a TV without Smart functionality these days, so what exactly is a “Smart TV” and what can they do?

What is a Smart TV?

The easiest way to describe a Smart TV is it comes with a built-in computer that can connect to the Internet and provide a wide range of additional content to watch beyond free-to-air services.
Smart TVs also have extra features like being able to control your TV from a smartphone, accessing social media and the world wide web on a big screen and other information like news and weather.
Modern Smart TVs can even interact with voice assistants like Amazon’s Alexa or Google Assistant and use their smarts to optimise image quality using Dolby Vision.

Wide World of Content

Video on demand (VOD) is the most popular feature of a Smart TV. This allows you to access services like Netflix, Stan, Amazon Prime, ABC iView and YouTube. All you need to do is connect your Smart TV to the internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet and a huge collection of content will be available for you to watch on demand.

FreeView Plus

Free-to-air networks have come together to create FreeView Plus, a service for making free-to-air content easy to record and catch up on.
With FreeView Plus you can catch up shows you missed, even if you forgot to record them using the built-in PVR! FreeView Plus also enhances the PVR with reminders, recommendations and series recording features.

Incredible Quality

On supported models (P6, P7, P8, P9 and R7, R8) 4K UHD Dolby Vision support is available thanks to the extra computational power a Smart TV provides. Dolby Vision images contain more tone definition in bright areas, more balanced, nuanced and natural colours, superior contrast range management and a greater sense of detail.
When paired with the right content (e.g: certain Netflix titles and 4K Blu Ray discs) your TV will constantly optimise brightness, contrast and colour performance throughout the video to portray the content as accurately and as beautifully as possible.

More Than One Way to Control

Can’t reach the remote? Just tell your TV to change the channel, volume or power on/off with your voice! Modern Smart TVs have Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa built right in and integrate with existing smart home setups. If your smartphone is nearby, you can also use the RemoteNOW app to replicate a physical remote right on your phone.
