Meet our World Cup Competition Winners!

We are thrilled to announce the winners of our major prize – Matt and Angela from Melbourne! We sat down with the pair to see how they’re feeling ahead of jetting off to Russia next month on the trip of a lifetime.  Read on for our interview with our World Cup ticket winners:

1. Tell us a little about yourselves!
We have been married for 23 years (or almost 6 World Cups!); we have three children and one grandchild. We are both passionate sports fans and are actively involved in local junior sports.
Having attended as many World Cup qualifies as we can, and have been known to travel interstate for family ‘holidays’ to catch a qualifying game. We love the World Cup as it’s the pinnacle of the sport and an opportunity cheer on your national team and enjoy the best players in the world, going head to head for the ultimate glory.

2. What was your reaction when you found out you’d won? Did you have a feeling yours might be the winning entry?
You never expect to win these sorts of competitions – it was a complete shock and so exciting. We were actually notified we had won on Angela’s birthday, so it was a pretty cool birthday present for her!

3. How did your friends/ family/colleagues react?
We have had a lot of people offering to carry our bags!

4. Tell us a bit more about your passion for football – when did it start? How do you normally show your support?
The household passion for the world game has always been there. Matthew is the real driver – he played Junior State League in South Australia when growing up and has always maintained a keen interest in the sport. Getting up in the middle of the night and putting on the national team guernsey to watch a World Cup qualifier isn’t out of the ordinary. When the national team is playing, the flag is usually draped proudly over the entertainment unit in the living room!

5. What are you looking forward to most about getting to experience the World Cup in person?
The colour and excitement of the event, and obviously the pure emotion of witnessing the Socceroos live in person is going to be pretty cool! Win, lose or draw, it’s an amazing experience and we’re super proud of our boys.
At the World Cup, there are so many different languages and cultures, drawn together in harmony by one thing, a little round ball! It’s just incredible what the sport means to people.

Stay tuned for more from Matt and Angela – we’ll be following their World Cup journey closely!
