World Cup Wrap: Tuesday 3 July

Who will be left standing? We break down the odds, plus some memorable moments from the week in today’s World Cup Wrap. Read on:

WHO WILL WIN THE WORLD CUP?

With heavy-hitters Germany, Spain, Argentina and Portugal now out of the running (along with the world’s top two players, Messi and Ronaldo), we could see further World Cup upsets yet to come.

With the Round of 16 currently underway, here are our top picks for the Quarter-Finals and beyond:

BRAZIL

Brazil will have their eyes firmly on the prize, with star player Neymar in fighting form. Our pick? Finals for sure.

FRANCE

Having knocked out Argentina 4-3, France will have their game face on in Saturday’s game against Uruguay. While Les Bleus have had a shaky start to their World Cup campaign, we reckon they’ll be going head to head against Brazil in the Semi-Finals.

ENGLAND

If they manage to persevere in tomorrow’s clash against Colombia, England has a solid chance of progressing to the Semis, with only the winner of Sweden and Switzerland standing in their way. If they can maintain momentum, England may yet be the dark horse of this year’s tournament.

RUSSIA

Russia have surprised everyone this tournament by coming out on top against Spain in the Round of 16 (thanks, in part, to some controversial VAR penalties). Will they make it to the finals? They’ll face some stiff competition, but we say – never underestimate the momentum of playing on home turf.

Also still in the running: Croatia, Sweden, Switzerland, Colombia, England.

Who’s your pick to take home the glory?
